Ron & Stephanie Horton: Committed To Their Community
by Stephanie Horton
We have been in the tire business since the 1970s; Ron began in 1974 and myself in 1977. Both of us grew up here in Quincy, stayed and raised our family here and are committed to our community. Those of you that come through our doors are our friends and family, so we know how important it is to take the best care of your vehicle needs.
We have owned and operated Horton Tire Center/Les Schwab’s Quincy location since 1999. Prior to that, we were co-owners in both the Quincy and Portola locations. In 2006 we relocated next to the Safeway Shopping Center and expanded to nearly twice the square footage, also adding oil changes for our customers. In 2008 we built a new alignment center, and added additional oil bays to give our customers quicker service. In 2011 we went solar by installing over 200 solar panels and operate completely on solar power to this day.
We will be celebrating 20 years as a member dealer of Les Schwab in August of 2012. Being a member dealer of Les Schwab means we still own our business, yet have the benefits of a large supplier and over 400 other locations that honor our warranties and offer the same great services and prices we have here in Quincy. Ron was just elected to the board of trustees for all the Les Schwab Member Dealers.
We view our employees and their families as extended family. We’ve never run a help-wanted ad. Most new employees are referred by current employees, we offer them profit-sharing which gives each employee great motivation to do their best job for us and our customers. We provide full benefits, offer great opportunity and many have transferred to other stores and advanced. When we hire someone we want them to succeed in every area; we encourage personal growth and business skills to prepare them to succeed at whatever they may attempt.
We want our customers to have an experience that goes beyond buying tires; we want them to know we will do our best to exceed their expectations. Along with our many other products and services, we are committed to making you feel a part of our family. We had a visitor in 2009, Jes “JLR” R. from Sonoma, CA, come through our door. She shared her experience with us:
I took my mother and sister camping this summer up on the river near Quincy and broke a tire on my mother’s wheel chair. I drove into Quincy and took it into the local Les Schwab and was immediately greeted by a very helpful and polite employee who said he would see what he could do to get it repaired ASAP. I followed behind a few minutes later into the shop and found him and one other employee hard at work on fixing the broken tire. Within 15 mins they had done it and all the time with a smile. Without that wheelchair my mother was going to be stranded on our camping trip and ultimately I would have needed to pack the family up and go home early.
I am very thankful to both of those men. Very professional and friendly! I would definitely use this tire shop if I was ever nearby and needed their services again.
Everything we do comes with a warranty, several free services and a guarantee that is honored at all Les Schwab stores. We realize that internet purchases are appealing, however, after you have paid the price of the tire, add on the freight, labor to mount and balance, disposal fee, and then no warranty for any service on the tires, most people realize it wasn’t such a good deal after all. Getting great customer service is still priceless!
Our business philosophy is simple; always be honest, take the best care of our customers, treat our employees right, and offer a fair price for services and products. We hope that you will give us a chance to earn your trust. Come visit us at 116 E Main St. Quincy, CA. Or call Ron or Stephanie Horton at 530-283-1450. We have an open door policy and look forward to seeing you soon.
